Ididit Retrofit 1963-64 Impala Tilt Column Shift with Dash Bezel Steering Column

This retrofit column is designed to fit your 1963-64 Impala and does NOT require modification to your original vehicle to install. Simply remove your old column, saving your original under dash mount and floor mount. Using an ididit installation kit, install your new steering column in place of the old. A new aluminum dash bezel is included with the 1963-64 column. These columns come complete with a neutral safety switch (shift indicator not included). The shift pattern on the column allows you to use either a 3 or 4-speed automatic transmission (except early Powerglides, as they have a reverse pattern transmission). A shift linkage (new or original) is required for installation and will attach to the lower shift arm provided on the column. Add an aftermarket wheel (using an adaptor) or original wheel but keep in mind that an aftermarket wheel may push the wheel closer to the driver and the original wheel will increase the overall length of the column towards the driver.

Installation Kits

Deluxe Kits - Original Harness
For vehicles with an original factory harness, a 4-way flasher kit is included with these kits. This 4-way flasher kit will not only add safety to your vehicle, but will also convert your original wiring harness to the 3 7/8” plug found on your ididit column. These kits include all the necessary parts you will need to install the column to the gearbox. All you need to know is the diameter of the gearbox input shaft and the number of splines. Please note 1965-66 is Rear Steer (the gearbox is near the back of the engine) so a u-joint & intermediate shaft is not needed, therefore they are not included in the install kit.

Deluxe Kits - Aftermarket Harness
These kits include all the necessary parts you will need to install the column to the gearbox. Many aftermarket wiring companies offer replacement harnesses that incorporate a 4-way flasher unit as well as the flat 3 7/8” plug therefore a 4-way flasher kit is not included in these kits. All you need to know before you order is the diameter of the gearbox input shaft and the number of splines.

Econo Kits - Original Harness
We had the builder on a budget in mind when we designed this kit. The original joint and intermediate shaft are used. The shaft will need to be cut and modified to match the 3/4” DD u-joint. Due to age, the original u-joint may be worn so please double check to make sure it is in good condition. We always recommend replacing the u-joint.
